Player series p bass

I got a new player series p bass two weeks ago and can't stop playing it. It's tidepool blue with maple fretboard. The neck is really good satin on the back gloss on the front. Fit and finish is very good regardless of the price. The bridge is pretty standard fender but looks good and works well. The tuners and solid and I've only had to tune it twice. Once when I got it and again after I put some flats on it. Now the pickups and pots are very good too. The pickups are very clear and defined. The pots are smooth with just the right amount of resistance to let you know that you're turning them. I also notice a lot of difference to the sound with the tone when changing it little bits at a time. I've already played two gigs and a couple rehearsals with it. Really the only thing that could be a problem with some, is the finish seems pretty thin. It's got some dings that are hard to see and small but are there, after only 2 weeks. I couldn't get them to show up on camera though. I personally don't care because I got it as workhorse that I expected to get beat up. Overall I feel it's a real improvement over the old Mexican standard.

I haven't played a MIM for years until last week.
Tried theP Player, Standard, and the limited edition GC Ocean Turquoise (which I have coming new in the box).
They were all excellent; the truss rods were set properly and an Allen wrench fixed the string height
I brought my trust 72' P with me for comparison that has DR nickels on it which I like better than the Fender strings. I think they all played as good or better!

Anyway; when did the MIM basses get so great?
These are outstanding basses and better than some of the old MIA P's.
For laughs I tried a Squire and it wasn't as nice but it was great at that price point.

I got one of the 3TSB, my first P bass. I like the way it feels a lot but couldn’t stand the way it looked with that white pickguard.

Found a cherrywood one on eBay and rubbed it down with lemon oil. It seems to get gradually darker every day and I love the look of the flat brown next to the glossy sunburst.

Gonna put a Bart 8s in it and give the fretboard another coating of lemon oil while it’s off. Thinking about puting in a new premade wire harness.... Any thoughts?

I did not like the white pickguard on my MIM Standard either...

So the wood pickguard is not sitting flush... I think is shrunk a bit and I’m gonna go with tortoise shell or black. That’s what I get for trying to be creative :(
