Hello, bass players. Here is some dumb question. I’m considering buying my first bass. I write metal music in drop c tuning now, but I am going to switch to a 7 string guitar and drop g# later. I have never played bass before so can’t really find an answer for the following: is it a normal thing to buy a 5 string bass and play only 4 higher strings in ?CGCF tuning until I buy 7 string or should I go with a 4 string and buy another 5 string bass later? Possibly removing 5th string completely for the time. Sorry if this is super dumb

Playing 5 string without the 5th string

Back from the dead. I just tune my 5 string to GCGCF. That way you have some cool octaves to play with.
You could buy a 5 string and choose to not play the low B but, that would be a waste.
Why not just get a four string and string it BEAD?
