hi! sorry if i posted in the wrong thread. i will play 2 songs in front of my school this fall. its also my first time playing on stage and im kinda nervous

Playing in front of my school

Look like you know what you are doing, and enjoy it! Performing is not that hard if you have rehearsed properly before.
See if you can get the band together in your garage for a quick two tune blast for the familiies. Anything to get used to performing as distinct from playing. A bunch of guys all staring at their shoes isn't the go. You don't have to strut the stage and put the the singer in the shade but at least be looking up!
On your own account, play for your Mum, your brothers and sisters, your neighbours, your dog...Anyone who will listen. It doesn't have to be the basslines for the show.

I guess I (sorta?) agree with this. Don't do something that's overly awkward in an attempt to look amazing. You want to be as comfortable as possible. Nothing looks worse than attempting an epic fill and failing- throwing you and the rest of the band out of time and making a train wreck out of the whole thing. Why make life difficult? Plus if you try and do some weird and wonderful technique and ruin everything, you'll never hear the end of it- I should know. hint- if you're far away from the drummer or if your drummer listens to the bass to keep the rhythm, don't try improv syncopation

Kidding aside, just practice practice practice until perfection. Yes, you will still be nervous but your muscle memory will take care of that and knowing that you know what you're playing will give you peace of mind.

Once you practice like crazy, the songs will become second nature. Then you will have enough mental ability to remember to smile. Very important!
Perfect example, I saw an early video of me recently... I remembered the gig and I remembered that I was having fun, but I almost hard a snarl on my face! It was a bad vibe for the audience, I'm certain!!!

Don't turn your back to the audience. If you get real nervous, don't be overwhelmed by the size of the audience - find a friendly face on the front row and play to them. It's amazing how that can downsize the whole thing and make it feel more comfortable.
