Double Bass Playing in neck positions

I remember when younger students used to come to me having been taught the 'creep-up' style of learning the positions - 1st, then 2nd, then 2 /12 etc. When they finally reach the neck positions, it was a scary time. When I wrote my "Practical Studies", I decided to go from A (1) position directly to D pos. (4th) and then the octave. It helps outline the fingerboard. That worked so I added the Eb pos. (5th), E and F positions which were easy to find. I did an article on all this and you might want to take a look and try a copy with some of your students. Let us know how it works for them.

This is a great method, Tom. This is how my first teacher taught me the positions but he didn't put it in such concise terms Good work
