Playing in Party Bus

Background info: My youth group recently bought a huge bus for our events (complete with disco ball, bowling alley carpet, and blacklight) . On our way home from a nearby camp that our guitarist and I played, we decided to start jamming in the bus. We were able get a tiny bit of sound through his loop pedal, but almost inaudible. Next month we have 24+ hour drive to Oklahoma City. We'd like to work out a better system than this.

Do you all know a way to make this work? The amplification would need to be battery powered, or able to plug into the cigarette lighter. Something that works with phones is genre at, but in addition we would like to be able to play through the bus speakers. Any help, advice or recommend gear would be great.

Is there a budget? I would think your best bet would be a small portable PA system. A lot of them have some sort of battery pack. Carvin has one, or used to, I think it was $400 or so. DI your instruments into it and you're good.

Check Mapleglo's thread on the Marceline Axe Bass over in the luthier's corner. She rigged up a small homemade amp with a battery pack of some kind. Might help.
