Playing with a new drummer

Been playing bass for about 18 months now.
Very happy with my progress.
Working on putting a band together.
Classic rock stuff..
Fleetwood MAC, Clapton,Cream, etc
The drummer and I just met a month or so ago.
We have only played together half a dozen times.
We are just not tight.
Are there any suggestions on bass and drummer locking in..
Would appreciate any experiences or thoughts

Look over at his kick drum foot pedal, ignore his fills and runs let the basic beat be your guide. Course if his beat is not even - good luck.

If you want to lock in you must first be aware of the target.
That means : know the drum part
Have the drummer teach you what he is playing.

Copying the rhythm of the kick drum is an excellent start.
