Double Bass playing with an Acme Flatwound

I am trying out some different combinations. I picked up a Series III 'flatwound'. It is a single 12. I double on upright and 5 string and am looking for a medium volume doubler rig.

My initial thought was to see what it sounds like with an Acoustic Image Contra. Odd pair up huh? On electric it is a good match. It is a more of a clean focused sound.

The upright needs some work. A) You really need to use the HPF (High Pass Filter) and there is a 2k presence bump I don't like. If I can find a way to deal with that I will be OK. A head with flexible EQ might be OK.

The Flatwound is good to 4k and really is dropping off at 8k, so it sounds like a 12 in that regard. The 2k peak is not that produounced as some I've heard, I just don't like it on my upright/pickup combo. You know that varies a lot.

You need to fill out your user profile and list the pickup you currently use. I haven't used a 15" speaker since I had the B-15N out of the garage, not to say they won't work but I personally wouldn't head that direction. I was under the impression that the Series III Flatwound had a 12" driver. The Low B1 works great for Double Bass but it's a power hungry little critter

With a sensitivity rating of 91.1 dB @ 1 watt/1 meter, the Flatwound is going to need a lot of power to get it moving.

I'd recommend also auditioning the Euphonic Audio Wizzy M, which is an excellent cab for doubling and has a much higher sensitivity rating than the Acme (which means it needs far less power to do the same amount of work).

My bad it is a 12 and I corrected my post.
I use a Realist.

Yes it's inefficient, that is why it pairs up with AE cabinet so well. I am liking the two combined on electric. It is similar if a Euphonic head is involved, only the EA is capable of more output.

It doesn't sound like a B15N it's more modern sound, though it's hard to say how much of that is the head.
