Nice looking bass in great condition. I'm assuming it's hollowbody? Can't think of how the volume and tone pots got installed otherwise.

I usually search ebay for completed auctions on a particular item when trying to determine the value. That way you know what things actually sell for as opposed to inflated asking prices. That bass would certainly be at the higher end of the scale.

I played a '71 vintage Guild M-85 II a few months ago in an NYC vintage guitar shop. This one, in fact:

According to Invalid Link Removed, the bass I posted has the stock pickups.

The pickups in your bass? The neck looks like one that's commonly found in a Guild Starfire (or it's a Darkstar). That, plus the odd bridge pickup make me think that your bass is an M-85 I, which came with a single pickup in the neck position, much like the Starfire bass's pickup. The bridge pickup was probably a mod made by the original owner who wanted a little more tonal versatility.

Neither of those pickups are stock. It came with the Guild Humbuckers. The neck is either an original BiSonic or a Darkstar. The bridge I'm not sure of, but not what came with it new. I'd venture it has better tone than the originals. While the humbuckers are good, the BiSonic/Darkstar are in a class of their own.

It is a stock bass. I had a 1970 Jetstar bass with the same setup. This M85 is an older hollowbody one. The pickups are both Hagstrom. A rare one for sure. I've only seen them with one or two Bisonics before.

I thought this was a solid body, but it is a chambered body ( slightly, I think ). It weighs 8 lbs 4 oz. on my digital scale, and the body is 2 3/4 inch thick. Like I said, have not seen another with this pickup configuration. Any ideas of it's value ? Thanks.
