Please Fix "Go to First Unread" Behavior

Here's the scenario:

1. On the Home page, out of curiosity, I happen to select a random new post from a thread that may already have accumulated, say, 20 previous pages of posts. So now I'm situated on page 21.
2. I decide that I'm really interested in the thread, so I decide to read the whole thread from the beginning.
3. However, when I then click on "Go to First Unread," I am taken immediately to the first post on page 22. This seems to make no sense. Logically, since I have only ever seen one post on page 21, my "first unread" post should really be post #1, but the current logic flags every post prior to my initial random post, all the way back to page 1, as read, along with every other post on page 21. This makes reviewing the entire thread in sequence from the beginning extremely difficult, since the "Go to First Unread" link is rendered useless, and I have to devote a separate, independent TalkBass connection to keeping track of exactly which post in the thread I actually leave off on. Please fix this behavior so that the "first unread' post is calculated more accurately.

Instead of clicking "go to first unread" you need to just click on page one; that will do what you are looking for. The software will bookmark whatever spot you visited that's the farthest in and assume that you read everything before that. I don't think it keeps track of every post you've looked at in every thread.

??? When I'm logged in, does "Go to First Unread" not apply only and exclusively to my own personal thread history?? Otherwise, that function makes even less sense. After all, the software does put me on page 22, which is correct by its own broken logic.

Again. It takes you to the deepest post in the thread that you have read. If you're on page 22, you've read a post on that page. It's not going to take you to page one after you've been on page 22. Sorry.

Thanks at least for the confirmation of the defective logic. If I've read any post on page 22, it flags the whole page as read and takes me to page 23. That's a minor issue, the larger issue being flagging all 21 previous pages as read as well; and if it's not fixable, I'm sorry too. Consider this suggestion closed.

That's reasonable. So, if you didn't read one post on page 30 of a 54 page thread, it should take you there (never mind not knowing if you actually read a post, or just were on the page)?

Second thought: I happen to be a relatively literal person, and to me, "first" means exactly and only that. So, If the logic can't be fixed, then perhaps a terminology change would help to provoke less confusion. Perhaps the function could be labeled "Go to Latest Unread" or "Go to Most Recent Unread."

OP, I agree with you that it's illogical. On occasion I have kept open a separate tab in my browser for a long thread I'm reading. That circumvents the problem entirely I think. Just remember to not click the "alerts" button in that tab, or everything will get mixed up!
