Please no more poplar burl

For the love of god. It's become the 2020s equivalent of pointy/flouro guitars from the 80s.

Ibanez seemingly literally can't make a guitar without plopping some poplar burl on there. Cort, got some interesting looking guitars but they just slather that poplar burl on there. Spector? Better like poplar burl.

ALL EIGHT of ESP's LTD basses introduced this year feature..you guessed it, poplar burl.

It's borderline parody:

Apparently "modern bass" just means slather some poplar burl on there. I'd love a multiscale five string Ibanez but it's almost impossible to avoid the poplar burl!
I like-a da poplar burl. It’s super lightweight and looks cool. Sorry it makes you mad 🤣🤣🤣

While I generally like wood with character - and the burls generally do have that - I am not really a fan of burls and spalts. I do have one with burl (Ibanez EHB), but it's blue burst finish makes it look very Milky Way-like, so it is not too bad.

I prefer flamed maple, quilted maple and straight grained natural wood if it is a natural or transparent wood top.

So much cynicism and so little soul. Do any of you realize how hard those poplar trees have to work, just to try and make something special for you?!?!? What do they get in return? Your whining and complaints. Maybe the next time you walk past a poplar tree, you could stop, look up and say "Thank you".
Besides, has it occurred to you that if it wasn't for guitar companies using up some of the poplar burl, we'd probably be up to our elbows in it?
Show some appreciation. They do it for you. :woot:

Makes me wonder... are there THAT many diseased trees that there's an overabundance of burl for instruments in multiple price ranges? Like, is there some sort of epidemic among the trees that other living things should be worried about?
