I like flame maple. It looks classy.I'm a fan, but I've always been a fan of woodgrain basses.
Back when I was a youth, the fad was flame maple on everything.
I still rock a flame maple Yamaha lol.

Poplar is what pallets are made out of.Poplar is popular …
I like-a da poplar burl. It’s super lightweight and looks cool. Sorry it makes you madFor the love of god. It's become the 2020s equivalent of pointy/flouro guitars from the 80s.
Ibanez seemingly literally can't make a guitar without plopping some poplar burl on there. Cort, got some interesting looking guitars but they just slather that poplar burl on there. Spector? Better like poplar burl.
ALL EIGHT of ESP's LTD basses introduced this year feature..you guessed it, poplar burl.
It's borderline parody:

Apparently "modern bass" just means slather some poplar burl on there. I'd love a multiscale five string Ibanez but it's almost impossible to avoid the poplar burl!
And panga panga.
