please recommend a new fretless

and while were at it, my attempt to revive an old fender acoustic amp, put 8inch bass speakers and increased porting. does not work well for bass, maybe with a hpf. sounds better now for guitar, with tamer high end.

is choice dependent on budget?

I bought a Fender Squire fretless J-bass when it was introduced several years ago

for $300: a super playable same-as-Fender j-neck on a same-as-Fender J-body

upgraded factory pickups to Dimarzio J

IMO: this upgraded fretless Squire is as good and playable as a standard Fender fretless

at half the cost

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Fretless 3-Color Sunburst

my basses: '76 Fender J + Bluesman Vintage P + Fender Squire fretless J

all equal

I've been playing the yamaha all nite. it's really fun. but this p/j thing is my bread and butter and I want to try something new. I gig with that 5 string, it's been my go to for the last 2 years, but as I've stated I need to throw a p style passive pickup in and I think I will like it more. but still want a higher end fretless of a different nature.

here's the yamaha.

Yamaha looks nice!

MG makes a higher end-ish bass, mine (R) has passive bartolini soapbars, but I play my Warmoth/MIJ (L) the most.
