Depends if you like the tone and the awkward pickup cover/cavity (cut my hand in the cavity a few times).

Honestly I wanted a Ric when I first started playing bass, I found one and traded an instrument for it.
It didnt work for me and anything I was playing.

Thats just an opinion though, its a shame they are a bit hard to find so you cant really play one.

I used to play a Rick, and I had to eventually wear a wristband on my right wrist because the right-angle cut of the body would cut off circulation to my hand as my arm rested on the body while I played.

Bummer, but that's how it was.

So....

Go buy one!

I played a few Ricks, and I love it. The tone is awesome and it is very playable with the shorter scale neck. I'd love to own one but I don't play fours very much.

WAY overpriced, tonally they are a one-trick pony (even if it is a decent trick), and they are awkward as hell to play if you play with your fingers. In short- you don't need a Ric.

I wouldnt call them a one trick pony, thats like saying a Jazz bass is a one trick pony.

Didn't Geddy Lee play Ricks with his fingers for many years?
Like every tour in Rush's earlier times.
I owned a '73 4001 for 25 years. It's a great bass. If you can, give one an honest tryout and see if it works for you.

Ric's are VERY cool looking!!!! However,....for what you have to spend for one you could have twice the bass, tonally, playability-wise, versatility, and in general just plain old usefullness in several different brands. How's that for a convincing argument????

I had a rick once. People stopped talking to me, it was always raining, my wife left me, old ladies crossed the street just to kick me in the shins. Don't do it. Spend your money on a vacation to south america instead.

No! I saw them on tour for Caress of Steel, 2112, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures.
At no point did that cut up P bass make it onto the stage, I looked for it 'cause I'd seen a small pic of it on the liner notes of one of their albums. Geddy only played Ricks everytime I saw them sorry......I was there.
