plugging external speaker line into headphone jack?

Is this ok to do if a combo had no external jack for an extension speaker? :hiding:

Or if not okay, how much is involved in wiring an external speaker jack onto the back of a combo?

Sure, but it will be no louder than a headphone.

If there's no jack chances are the amp won't handle the lower impedance load of two speakers.

You can add an extension jack in series with the internal speaker wire if the amp can't handle any lower impedance. You'll only gain a couple db with the extension that way, but it'll sound a little fuller and get a speaker closer to ear level.

Most headphone outs disconnect the internal speaker for quiet operation, so you wouldn't gain anything, no matter how Rube Goldberg-ish a connection you contrived. You're better off trading up to something more flexible, if another cab is what you want.

You could use it as a send if it had high enough signal level, which would probably entail having both a preamp and a power amp between the headphone jack and the speaker.

In the end, its probably much more worth getting a combo with a speaker out, or a amp head, rather than trying to expand something that's not meant for expansion.
