Possible GK problem

So, my mini rig has been giving me a problem lately. i ran an ipod into my GK 1001rbII with a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter and i havent had any problems until now. i have an avatar sb112 for the cab. i recently experienced a problem. when i turn on the amp i get a loud pop where the speaker pushes out hard and is followed by a static sound. the music still plays, but the static is still there. i recently pushed the system pretty hard on some rap to show off to some friends. it wasnt clipping or anything like that so i dont think i blew the speaker, but it could be. i tried plugging my headphones into the send jack of the effects loop and the static isnt there.

could it be a problem past the preamp? or is it the speaker?

im sorry if this explanation does not include enough info.
feel free to ask for clarification. i have no other cabs to test it with until wednesday.

any help is greatly appreciated

Its the older avatar112 with the 500w 8 ohm driver. i just had it really bass heavy so you could feel it. it was actually kind of fun in my little dorm room. the speaker wasnt farting or abything it was stil smooth and sounded good so i diddt think it was doin anything. im starting to think it could be the head. that sucks.

If it's rated at 500w max or peak, then its RMS rating is probably around 250 or 300w. Typically if the sound isn't distorted or farty then you probably aren't pushing it all that hard. But even though your rating for the head might be 480w, that is more than likely with EQ set flat and that is probably the RMS rating for that head. So cranking up the bass like you said you had done would add much more stress to the speaker than if you were playing through it set flat.

I kind of doubt it would be the head, because the GK stuff is solid state and pretty hardy from the get-go if you ask me. but just use process of elimination like mentioned before, and you'll see where the weak link in the chain is.

Ive been playing with it for a bit and it seems to be kind of intermitent now. it almost sound like a radio static. like and extremely out of tune radio station, there is no distingwishable sound though. but when i play through it with a bass it makes sound for a the static sound for a bit then goes away and it fine. i have my zune hooked up to it again it occasionally has a wierd static sound under the clear music.

Is it possible for a head pickup radio freq's or some other kind of interferance?
