Possible Sell

I would like your thoughts on this please,

I have been offered a Rickenbacker 4001V63 in very good condition from a friend for £2000.00 to raise the money i would have to sell my Original 1964 Hofner Violin Bass,how much are these basses going for now.

I have'nt played this bass for the last 10 years,since my girlfriend bought me a Rickenbacker 4003.If any of you have a copy of Bassist Magazine from March 1998 the Hofner is in it.

if you have'nt played the hofner in 10 years, have it checked out/set up if necessary and sell it! it should be worth a boat-load of money, easily twice the rick price. a v63 is not all that common,and one of the best models rickenbacker made IMO. it is essentially similar to the chris squire model,usually much more affordable,though. you might decide to sell the 4003 after you get the v63-no binding on the neck or body makes a real difference when you're playing them.

I could'nt sell the 4003 my girlfriend would'nt be happy as she saved hard for it.The Hofner is an amazing bass & it's 44 years old now and still going strong,but i'm just not using it & being a big Chris Squire fan the V63 would be nice.We will have to see how much it's worth.

I'd keep the Hoffy. I did just the opposite of you last year by selling my 4001CS to finance the purchase of a '63 Selmer Hofner. No regrets. I regularly get offers of $5-6k for the Hoffy too. I figure that will just keep going up. Although the V63 is discontinued, the '63-'64 Hofners are nearly extinct! I have a few other Ricks to satisfy that need.

Ricks are great but I wouldn't trade a '64 Hoff for one!

That's a tough one. I'd look into other ways to finance the Ric without selling the Hoffner. Since you've already got one Ric, worst case, I'd keep the Hoffner too. But, one Ric is never really enough, is it?
