Post your SX Ursa headstock reshapes!

I know there are a number of threads where people have shown how they reshaped the new (and ugly) SX Ursa headstock, but I'd like to start having folks post them in one place so we can compare and not have to search around for them.

So, if you've reshaped or added to an SX Ursa headstock, post your pics here and tell us how you did it!

Something like that, I don't know the details, I'm sure that the exact info is in a thread or two here on the TB site. Supposedly Fender had a problem with the styling of the last SX headstock, which I don't get, because it was shaped more like a Lakland than a Fender (although there really is only a very minor difference between the two).

You have just described the problem with a great many of the Fender boutique (and not so boutique) clones in current and recent production. Extra points for you, sir. I don't like pepperoni in my iced tea, either. :)

Thanks. This is why I'm looking for ways of modifying the existing headstock to something that better matches the body. It doesn't have to be Fenderish just less modern and pointy.

I have a collection of images from the various mod shapes posted so far on TB and IMHO THIS:

This is the one! It's been called the "dixie cup" mod because the first guy to do it used a dixie cup to draw that circle on the end that removes the Ursa point. I've done it to ALL my Ursa SX basses. it's fast, simple, takes minimum finishing, doesn't interfere with decals or logos and you can even easily match the "nuclear orange" necks with some "colonial maple" stain.

The above isn't mine (it was posted by Sam the Butcher in another SX thread). But mine DO look exactly like that. To me this is the ANSWER!

And I even figured out WHY it looks good. My SX basses were sitting there next to my G&L tribute when I noticed that the G&L headstock is virtually identical to this except for the point that hangs down from them on the lower curve. Ta Da! And everybody knows that G&L headstocks were designed to look great on a classic Fender body.

This is the best description about the new HS that I've seen. Well done, Sir. That said, I think this thread is a great idea! Could become quite the resource along the lines of the Citristrip vs. Essex thread.

Yep, Samthebutcher invented this mod. Best one I've seen yet, though some others have come close. Now to find pics of said "others." :ninja: They're out there.

There are literally hundreds of posts about SX (Essex for the search function) basses here at TB. They are without a doubt, the best bass value out there. If you're willing to do a little work, like set it up and shield it, you'll wind up with a bass easily worth 3x what you paid for it.

Seriously; spend some time reading. You'll be intrigued, guaranteed.

I own one of the older jazz's and love it...been craving a pbass recently but absolutely hate the new headstock. however this could be a fun, relatively painless project.
