Im trying out Hany Rambod's (Phil Heath's trainer/nutritionist) FST-7 (fascia-stretching training-7 (for 7 sets of 10-12 reps done each set with 30-45 sec rest at the end of every other workout) usually stick with one bodypart (lats right now, zero width but this helped last time) I've also been sticking to 5x5 and 3x3-4 on bench to get my max up. Not as much time to train since school's back in session and medical classes hurt my brain but Im noticing i don't need much more than an hour for training especially on shoulders. But thats my split, for now anyway
Before I sleep and when I wake up 50 push ups. Then I walk my route up Misery Agony and Heartbreak hills 5 days a week about 6 hours. Sometimes I am at the park on my day off running and hitting the bodyweight fitness machines.
Squats 4x6
Row 3x10
HIT bench 3x5
Lat pulldown 3x10
Weighted crunches 3x20
Half-half-full curls 3x(6+6+8)
Deadlift 4x6
Side bends 3x10 per side
T-Rex/Dinosaur Day (Lower body/legs):
Run half mile (0.8 km)
Squats 4x6
Leg extension 3x10
Weighted side lunges 3x6 per side
Weighted calf raises 3x10
Crunches to crash
Weighted squat lunges 3x16 steps
I also run at least 4 miles 3 days a week and use Sunday as a rest day. I do abs and squats every day since they're foundation exercises. I only do 1 day of dead lifting since I use a very high weight and it typically takes a few days to recover from it.
I throw in cardio work outs here and there, but nowhere near as regularly as I should be. Shifted to doing Rippetoes Starting Strength on the weights just to keep things simple (and try not to overdo it during the season).
I would hit the weights more often, but the rugby training can vary quite a bit in terms of physicality. There'll always be a lot of running, but if we end up doing a lot of lineouts (I lift) or scrums, or if we do tackling/rucknig/mauling at training, it really does work your!
I will finish up "Get Big" from Chad Waterbury's Huge In A Hurry in two weeks. I've been hitting those workouts 3 or 4 times a week thru the winter and running/rowing 1 or 2. Golf season will soon be here so I'll lower my lifting sessions and increase running/rowing.
