Power Amps

I was headed down this road on my first attempt at a rack head.:crying:

I had a six space flight rack with Power conditioner, Demeter pre, DBX compressor, and a GX-5. Almost weighed as much as the Schro 1210R. Re-confiured: got a Furman power strip (to the floor), returned the DBX for a Demeter pedal comp, returned the GX-5 for the 1804, returned the Road Runner case for a Gator 3 space rack bag. Mucho better.:hyper:

That weight stuff is important when you're an old guy like me.:hiding:

Agreed

By going to the Preamp I ordered and using something like the 1804 I will have reduced my (pre/power plant section) rig from 80 pounds to 35 pounds. Then by going to the 800 watt Cab I ordered I will have reduced my 2 4x10 Cabs to one greater powered 4x10.

I know it wont be as much as the two cabs but I think it will give me the extra bit of arse I need and be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy lighter.

Overall a sizable difference. :hyper::bassist:

I'm sure you may have already thought about it, but you can easily sell that 3pro and get a svp preamp, that'd cut some of your weight. Also, do you think that rack is a bit overkill? Solid metal and 15lbs?!?!?!? That's a beefy rack. Killer rig though :D Good luck on your power amp search, i'm looking for one now as well.

I'm sure that Pre is Groovy but I have ordered the new SWR Marcus Miller Preamp. It is a done deal and there is no turning back. I am in love with everything the new SWR Preamp will do (4 knob compressor, Vacume Tube in the front end, Footswitchable Boost with differeing Compressor Levels, Balanced out to Power Amp, etc.........). Yes it is heavy as far as preamps go but not that heavy and dang it does a lot.

I really need a good Compressor for my aggressive playing style plus all the other things it will do.

Yes my rack is crazy but it cost me zilch. When I get down to the new Pre and an 1804 (or something like it) I will be able to greatly downsize my rack as well in heigth and depth. The rack would probaly be around 9 pounds. I can live with the 35 pounds I will end up with, it's the 80 pounds thats killing me and a cardboard box (in place of the rack) will not make this rig very much more managable. :D

Was looking around. Saw a Crest Pro 7200 1,000 watts per side at 4 ohms 21 pounds. Not extreme light but not heavy by any stretch.

Got offered a freakin deal today on a brand new , still in the box, never been opened. and new amp design by Crest Performance Audio (not sure what the difference is) Amp called a Crest CPX 3.0 its a 3,000 watt amp though I am being offered a deal in in it, it is only 1 1/2 lbs lighter than my QSC RMX 2450. Now granted it puts out 550 more watts but it aint the lightness I was refering to (to bad).
