Power cord thickness

105C is hotter than my amp can handle. It's good to know the cable would survive. ;)

Cold wire can carry more current. Liquid nitrogen cooled cables are the best.
Don't worry about the cost, Liquid nitrogen is cheaper than milk.
Isn't liquid nitrogen like +4 deg K? Or +6 K? Nooooo, just a minor change in physics and your electrons will freeze, which the manual clearly states will void the warranty! Even a sudden drop in ambient could cause major issues, like what if the sun burns out? While the rest of us jam to our doom, you'll go out in frustration fiddling with the knobs on your amp! Die happy!
 
I bought solid wire for in-home re-wiring, thinking it would actually be easier to connect to the receptacles & stuff. I was wrong :wideyed:

I've always found solid wire more of a PITA to work with, which increase dramatically with thicker gauges.
I call it Internet Expertise Derangement Syndrome (IEDS). Folks afflicted with IEDS love to drop bombs in threads, demonstrating the vast amount of nothing that they know. It's best if they hit a thread early, so the folks who actually know something waste 5 pages correcting (and being trolled by) them.

You can sometimes tell those with IEDS at a distance by the crowds of clueless n00bs following them. ;)

Lighten up, Francis. I've done my share of electrical work (including designing and building my brewery panel), but I clearly defer to AgedHorse on all things technical. This thread went a lot of different directions...a lot of it folks just having fun.

UL = Underwriters Laboratory

3/C = 3 conductor
18AWG = 18 American Wire gauge
75C = max temp 75C

CSA SVT 3/C 18AWG FT2 60'C 300V.....

CSA = Canadian Standards Association
SVT = Service Grade, Vacuum cleaner cord, Thermoplastic
3/C = 3 conductor
18AWG = 18 American Wire gauge
FT2 = Flame Retardant (Minimum mandatory horizontal flame test for Flexible Cord)

What does this means ?

Basically UL has less strict limits on temperature than CSA. UL seems to only worry about cable failure, CSA seems to be concerned about whether it will burn you when you touch it.

Resistance is completely determined by cross sectional area and length.

I wouldn't use these if I couldn't hear the difference. I can also plug one into my Pioneer Kuro plasma monitor and see the difference in blacks and colors.

I'm not an engineer, but based on everything I know, their pitch of using multiple small gauge wires instead of 3 conductors makes some sense because they have lower resistance. All I can say is that I can hear the improvement in sound that's attributable to nothing else besides the power cord.

Victor Wooten and Michael Rhodes are two well-known Nashville bassists that use and believe in these too.

No, they do not.

They're the same for a given wire gauge. In fact - a stranded 18AWG wire has to have a larger diameter than a solid 18AWG wire to make up for the air gaps (lower fill factor).

Don't know much about electronics (at least compared to some here) but I could not help but notice on Essential Sounds "A/B test videos" that they did not show you what cord they were swapping out? If they had some 18 ga., 25 foot piece of garbage as the original, could I not get 90% of the improvement with a $10,14 ga. Hosa brand cable?

exactly, the only way it's going to improve is if the other power cable was starving it of power
