Can you use powered mixers such as this Invalid Link Removed for recording operations such as mixing down a miced drum set to one channel? I am guessing not, but I am not sure. Thanks.

powered mixer

If you are talking about plugging drum mics into that mixer and sending the mixer output to a recording channel then it would absolutely work. You can either run the stereo main outs into a stereo channel or use the record outs.
I think that any multi-channel mixer (including that one) would do the job. You wouldn't need a powered mixer, since you wouldn't be using the power amps.
Connect all of the individual drum mics to the channel inputs, set the output levels as desired, then go from the mixer's "LINE OUT" or "RECORD OUT" into one channel of your recorder. Make sure it's a line-level output, not the powered output that would normally go to a speaker cabinet.

Ah yes, of course, I guess that would work. I asking because I am wanting to buy a small mixer to do drum recording and I want to have the mic signals routed through a mixer so that all the drums are fed to one channel of my firepod. Also, I need a PA. It seems like something like the Gigrac would do the trick, though it would be limiting if I needed more mixer capabilities in the future.

Do NOT use the stereo main outs. Using a speaker level signal will damage your soundcard. You want a line level signal via something like the record out, tape out, line out, or power amp out.

I guess I should have been more clear. I was refering to the mixers outputs not the poweramp/speaker outs. The mixer he linked to was showing a pair of stereo outs on the front.

I had no problems with my Firepod. They have recently released drivers that allow you to connect 2 Firepods for 16 channels if you need that many. The preamps sound decent enough, it's very simple and portable, and doesn't cost a fortune. What more do you need?
