Practice amp recommendation

Hi,
I'm a guitarrist who just bought a Rockbass 5-string in need of a good practice/jam amp (no gigging involved, can borrow my friends huge old Randall-stack for that :-) I have been playing a cheap p-bass copy in headphones and through my ZoomB2-to-HiFi previoulsy, but with my new bass (beeing 5-string and all) it just don't do it anymore. I've been looking into the warwick Bluecab-series, and right now it looks like a Bluecab 60 would suit my needs. My question is, beeing a bass amp newbie, is the Bluecab 60 a good buy for my needs? What other amps in that pricerange would you consider?

Thanks in advance for any input to help me decide..

Have a nice day!

I don't know anything about the Warwick Blue cabs. I have tried some of the high priced Warwick combos here in Canada and they were very nice amps, but overpriced compared to most North American companies. But prices might be just the opposite where you are.

I do fine for at home practice with a 50 watt 1x10 combo amp made by Yorkville Sound. Cost about $300 here. There are others in the same price range that are good. Mine would handle a 5 string if you kept the volume at a sane level.

All I can suggest is that you take your bass out to some stores and try some stuff out.

Ok, thanks for your input!
I brought my bass and visited the two local instrument stores and tried the bluecab 15W and 30W. The 15W 8" could not handle my b-string but the 30W 10" did just well. Since they didn't have much else in that pricerange, I could not compare to any other brand.. The other store in town did not seem like they wanted to sell me anything, much less try it (don't you just hate it when the shopkeepers are that ignorant? No wonder Internet stores keep getting more common..)

So, it seems like thomann.de will be the place for me, any suggestions on what to get in the 3-400 USD-range?

Thanks in advance,
Magnus

I have an Orange Crush 35B that I swear by. The amp has a 12 inch speaker so I get a really good range of sounds through it. IMO I think the Orange the best underrated practice amp out there. Its also a bargin many can be had for under $200 new.
