Practice Amps

Do I need to get a practice amp for practicing? I found a Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo and I havent played any gigs but im told its only for gigs and stuff.Thing is I dont plan on getting any new amps for a while. Basically what im asking is would it be smart to buy this as a practice amp for now and use it later on for gigs

You can use just about any amp for practice. That Peavey would work fine for solo practice or small acoustic gigs without a drummer.

I have an older SWR Workingman's 12 that is my practice amp. Bought it used and didn't pay much more than what that Peavey costs new. It is 120 Watts and a hell of a great little amp. Small enough for my practice room but big enough for a brew-pub gig. This amp and a VT pedal and I'm good to go.

For practice, I usually go with an Ampeg B115.
Use the same for..ahh....volume-conscious gigs.
Was thinking about throwing a neo in there to cut down on the weight.

My system at home is a little different, as it never leaves the room.
Started with an Ampeg B3 biamp, (amp I took out of a B3158 combo) run the 50w highs though an 8 and a horn,
and the fx send to a 300w Yorkie 400B. That goes to either a 15 or a 4x10 (rarely both, just too freakin' loud)
Good balanced sound, has an XLR to send to the recorder, and enough flexibility to satisfy any bassist who comes over.

I wouldn't know how you'd use that for gigs. Unless I'm missing something and we're not talking about the 35 watt max 112. I don't leave my rig at a practice space or anything so I just practice through my gig rig. I'd also recommend shopping used. For something for small gigs and practice, look for an SWR working man combo or an old GK RB combo, I've used a GK 115 kickback combo that did fine getting over a drummer.

Bottom line, I think you could spend 200 bucks better.

Don't know "who" told you it was for gigs.........

That amp IS a practice amp. If you are going to gig, you will need something bigger.
