Practice: Apogee Jam or some I need to know about?

Hello guys,

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes nothing!!

I want to get back in jamming, but i need to practice. I owned the old ibanez headset personal amp back in the late 90s/ early 2000s. I bought a apogee jam like 5 years ago but its missing and I am an android user now so I was wondering if there something someone can suggest that works with android or pc or should i by a mac mini and a new jam?

any advice will help!

I own a pjb big head as a headphone amp
It was a little bit of an outlay but works brilliant
I only use it as a headphone amp but I believe it can be plugged into a PC or used as a pre amp
Feels solid and good quality and sounds very nice
It has a separate aux in I use for my iPod and the controls allow you to balance the inputs nicely
Battery powered but lasts a good 6 to 8 hours

It depends on what kind of Android you have. The older versions of the OS had huge latency issues that made audio recording basically impossible.

IK now makes interfaces for Android phones:

Which one will work for you depends on what kind of phone you have.

I wish some other companies would license the technology from them or phone makers would build it in.

Vox makes a bass headphone amp that has an aux input, that wouldnt make you reliant on an OS or evolving computing formats.

IK does a great job, but I think the folks contributing to Android has improved the latency a lot lately. The problem is that developers need to understand the architecture and, most important, that the low-latency figures are only possible on the most recent Android versions - which means 80% of the current users will never benefit from them!

Those things are definitely better handled over in the iOS camp...

Thanks all, I went with the iRig 2. I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge + so its sounds ok. Very limited especially with the bass, but its something for now!

I also got rocksmith 2014 for the ps4 (came with the cable). I downloaded it for pc off steam for $13 and it sounds great. Learning songs is also a nice feature to!

I have a apogee jam 96k - no noise, no complains.

If your purpose is only to practice but not recording, why not just buy a small amp (like Ibanez 10B) and use the headphone out? It's cheaper than buying an interface.
