Double Bass Practicing Techniques (Orchestral DB thread)

Hey all,

So it just came into my mind that I would like like to ask the community what kind of practice techniques do you all use or have in your ‘tool box’ so to say when you are cleaning up or learning a new excerpt/piece.

For example, Shifting Drill to correct shifts
Different Rhythms to get the left hand up to speed
Etc...

That is just a couple of the basic ones off the top of my head but I would like to know if anyone has some they would like to share, if so, please tell a bit about it. I’m starting to get into the world of excerpts so it would be cool to see what/how everyone else learns and approaches them.

Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum, I don’t know wether if this belongs in the Pedagogy or Orchestral Technique forum so I chose the latter.

I'm an electric player but I run stuff through what my old teacher called the root progression. I will take any short passage (right now 2 Oct Maj scales) and play them through different keys in this order starting from open E to Eb on A string.

Chromatic up
Whole steps down
Half whole up
Half whole down
Minor 3rds up
Maj 3rds down
Fourths up
Fifths up
Final one is compound where you go up a tri tone then down a fifth over and over til you get back to E
