Hey bass9454. I'm not sure exactly what Ant means by "mind set" but here's my perspective: as an analogy, there are lots of people who have fun playing a round of golf every day and eventually, their games improve, sort-of. There are others who want to be masters of the game, and those people spend hours at the driving range practicing the components of their game (driving, chipping, putting, etc.) deliberately and efficiently. For me, I would be hard-pressed to know what to do at a driving range except hit balls, but that's where the golf professionals come in -- they are able to guide me through the components of the game so I know what to practice and how. Problem with music is that most bass teachers are good bass players, but they are not professional educators. A good PROFESSIONAL teacher has a curriculum and a plan that will take me or anyone from "how to hold the bass" to advanced technique so I can play anything, anywhere, anytime and always at a professional level.
After one lesson with Anthony, I had enough curriculum material to spend four hours per day practicing technique, and if I continue with my mindset to be a GREAT bass player some day, I know that a teacher of his calibre has a curriculum and the skill to get me where I want to go. So for me, learning how to practice deliberately and efficiently starts with
having a teacher who teaches deliberately and efficiently and even before that, with the mindset of a disciplined student who is willing to put the work into building the fundamental techniques required to get me there. JMHO Anyway, that's just how I look at it, and there are days when I'm not a disciplined student because I spend too much time talking about playing and not enough time practicing deliberately and efficiently

....so....off to practice!
