Im thinking on making a stingray and getting most the parts from guitarfetish and make the body. But how does a pre work are they compatible with passive pups? Enlighten me please.

I could very well be wrong on this, but here's how I think it goes. There's active pickups, and there's active circuitry (preamp). With active pickups, the pickups themselves are powered, resulting in a stronger signal. With a preamp, it's just the circuitry that is powered - the pickups are passive - boosting the signal out. I think that's the difference. But again, I could easily be wrong. I have both. In all honesty, I think they essentially do the same thing.
