pre-Ernie Ball Music Man Electronics for SUB Bass

Hey all

I'm looking to change the pickup, preamp and pots of my newly acquired US made SUB Bass. I love pre-Ernie Ball Stingrays and would like to get closest possible to that sound.

I see that there are a few options out there but which one of them makes a 1:1 clone of the original pickup and electronics? Nordstrand seem to make the most faithfull alnico pickup and Mojotone seems to make a 1:1 clone of the pre-amp. What would of been the original pots? CTS? Then there's also John East...

So, which one is closest to the OG?

Unless I had a pre-EBMM SR to directly compare to my US SUBs, I feel and hear the US SUB 2EQ as pretty darn close, the pre EB is probably a little smoother sounding.
Otherwise, I think you have done your research and found the Nordy MM4.2 and Mojotone pre, which pretty much nail that early SR thing.
Mojotone used to make a clone of the early SR pickup, too. You could ask them to custom shop one..?

The pickup is Alnico. The chip used is an "LM4250CN" but referred to as a 4250. Never heard of a 42500. Maybe you read the "C" as an extra "0".

P.S. I just looked at the SUB preamp. The IC is stamped 4250D. The last marking is a "D" and not a "0". It is a 4250 chip.

That's exactly it, I read 42500 but it was indeed 4250D. Doesn't sound like I need to change anything afterall!
