Pre + Power Help

Right, after having my current Rig a few months, ive decided that im not entirely happy with it. And after playing my bass through my bass tutors Sansamp Bass Driver DI, i was more than impressed. I mean properly impressed. Anyway, it made me think that it might be worth getting one and poweramping it up. If so, i would probably go the QSC route as people seem to think highly of them.

So, questions :

1) Can the Bass driver run a poweramp?

2) I really dont understand the QSC terminology so i dont know which one to get (atm running a 4x10 - 250 watts 4ohms)

3) Is this a good idea? I mean, from what ive heard from that i really liked? Any better suggestions?

received answers for most of your questions, I'll make a stab at it. I, too, am new to the preamp/amp stuff, but I'm a little ahead of you, so here goes:

A preamp boosts the signal from the bass guitar to the amp, and it can also shape the sound. There are lots of preamps that do it differently/better. I have a BBE BMax, but that's because I was able to get it at a good price from a fellow T-B member. I understand the Sansamp is really nice.

The QSC has two channels in stereo, and QSC lists the watts as Xwatts at 4/8 ohms/stereo. So .. a QSC RMX1450 has 450 watts at 4 ohms. Your cabinet is rated at 250 watts at 4 ohms. As I understand it, you can use twice the amp power, so you could use 500 watts at 4 ohms and not immediately fry the cabinet. You would only use one side of the amp. I have run one cab with a QSC USA850, using "mono bridging," which runs all power out to the one side, but my cabinet is rated 800 watts (Trace Elliot).

I now have two cabinets (Fitzmaurice) and am experimenting with the QSC in stereo, running the subwoofer from one channel and the Omni10 from the other.

Does the Preamp/QSC work? Apparently, because a number of Talkbass members use it.

The real question is does the Bass Driver box have enough output to drive a power amp to it's rated power.

I'd be more comortable using something like the BMax and front ending it with the Bass Driver stomp box personally.

By the way, interesting rig in the pic above. It looks loud as heck but is not the 'prettiest' rig I've ever seen. Kind of a bass rig meets industrial machine look. I have to wonder is fencing to keep people and small animals out, or to keep the rig from hurting someone ...

It's Road Warrior meets marching band bass guitarist! I do plan to give it a new coat of paint, since it's been through one football season. It's a garden cart from Lowes, and everything fits just right, which helps when pulling along uneven surfaces, often up and down hills. The sides protect the cart in the equipment truck which is placed with all the other band equipment from alto saxes to xylophones. Not only loud, but low as well.
