Trying to record DI, using a lovely 500 series jhs colour box preamp. It's working (and i can hear the goodness it will provide) but not without a lot of noise (the opposite of the kind I can deal with; it goes silent when I am not touching my bass, but starts to hum LOUD when it's in hand). So I'm at a point where I wonder if it's my CIJ fender mustang's pickups. Any thoughts there, are they notoriously noisy? it has some but hardly any static noise when i use a telecaster DI.
I've tried:
adding a Radial JDI passive DI box before & after the preamp
turning on every buffer (one on the preamp is -20db, on the DI box its got a -15)
swapping every cable in the signal flow
using both Pro Tools & Logic Pro X
for context, my interface is an Antelope Orion Studio Thunderbolt
