Preamp to Hartke LH1000

Hey everyone

I have a Hartke LH1000 and i have been eyeballing a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro rackmount preamp and I just wondering 2 things:

1) pull the trigger on this preamp?
2) if i got it, how would I even connect it to my LH1000 head

Pulling a trigger on it is about the only thing I would do with a piece of Behringer gear, but hey, that’s just me. But you’d use the Effects Return part of the Effects loop… which, if I’m not mistaken, is only slightly more complicated on Markbass amps than most others. But it is doable.

Edit: Sorry… slipped a groove there. Belay that stuff about Markbass, i.e., never mind, your Hartke is of the more normal variety.

Connect your bass to the input of the V-Amp.
Connect the Left Analog Line Output on the V-Amp to the Effects Return input on the LH1000.

Here's the Bass V-Amp owner's manual. Hook-up details are in section 3.4. In the text they call out illustrations, but the illustrations aren't included.

This piece of gear would seem to have more applications in a studio setting rather than live use with a power amp. Whether you should "pull the trigger" or not entirely depends on what you think it brings to the table. The effects are dated and speaker simulation makes no sense when using a real rig. It's been out of production for a number of years, so you'll only find it in the used market without support. They don't have a good track record for reliability: you can do a search here on TB and find tons of testimony to that.

I’ve been using LH1000 amps for a long time. Also had a V Amp a long time ago. Just curious what you were hoping to get out of the V Amp? With its implementation of the AX7 tube, the preamp of the LH1000 is really good - almost hard to beat in my opinion. Putting the V Amp in front of it seems like a step down if you’re talking pure tone. If you’re looking distortions or other effects, there’s probably better ways to go. If you have a great deal on a V Amp and just want it, it will work and you’ll get the variety of sounds it offers. It will be up to your ears if you like the overall tone.
