Preamps - dumb questions - help

Something like this? The empty space is for an incoming Billy Sheehan drive pedal.

I'm always happy when I see a Q-Tron. In my opinion, not enough bass players are using envelopes and auto wahs! Most people would probably go crazy if every song had quacking on it, but I would love it hahah

It ain't dumb if it works. And it sure will work fine, unless you maybe start turning all of them on at the same time haha
It's actually quite a nice idea if you have a bunch of different tones you really like.
Les Claypool used to have two MXR M80s on his board. Probably one for more grit and the other for a little less. Or he used them as backups, or for different instruments. Now he's got a couple different channel strips and a single Tech21 bass VT.

I personally don't have enough different tones that I like to justify something like this. Although I did think about getting a second Tech21 for a different tone too. Can't turn up the drive and turn down the level at a show, or change the character setting!

Yeah, I started doing this because I'm playing with a metal band with a Dingwall NG3, and an old school funk band with a G&L L2500. I didn't want to deal with multiple pedalboards, and the default settings are so different for the two bands, this just seemed like the easiest (and most fun) way, almost like having presets for each band.

Just don't hit the metal pedal when it's time for funk haha

A s the Q-tron+ there is one of my favorites. I play a lot of funk, and that "response" knob at the top is killer - not a lot of Mutron clones and filters have that.

I just wish it wasn't so big!

I love this place. Holy rabbit hole though. It's rad to see what guys that have forgotten more than I know use and how they setup rigs... the wealth of knowledge is just amazing.

I feel way better about my approach now. Thank you all!

Although, I have to admit, the deeper I dig, the more pumped I'm getting on the ToneX pedal. This may be one of the best things to ever happen in my life. Truly unbelieveable what this does, and for the price it's just mind blowing. I'm looking forward to more of them getting out there and the "library" of presets growing.

A s the Q-tron+ there is one of my favorites. I play a lot of funk, and that "response" knob at the top is killer - not a lot of Mutron clones and filters have that.

I just wish it wasn't so big!

I wish it wouldn't take 24V! If it was smaller and only took one of my PSU outputs, I could have another pedal on my board

Quite an amazing pedal I hear, capture any amp/cabinet/drive pedal and you have an exact sounding/playing copy.
The pedal holds hundreds of captures.
Have read a bit on guitar forums but not yet seen much bass stuff on this.

Keen to hear your thoughts on the Tonex when it arrives.

The problem for ME, is I suck at recording cabs with mics. I just don't have the appropriate gear or experience or even really a good place to do so at my leisure.

So I'm also most likely going to pick up it's cousin, the tonex capture. This unlocks all kinds of what I consider to be "much easier" ways to capture my sounds and in theory allow me to capture all of my ever growing preamp sounds. If you go sign up on tone net, you can hear some of what's out there already.

I'll add something I just found. Jason Sadites did a cool video demonstrating this. This little box combined with an expression pedal is NUTS. Allowing you to have two completely unique presets and then BLEND between them. This is opening very new doors for me as a "low intermediate" player that never even thought about incorporating this kind of thing. Link to his vid:

100% worth the price, hands down, best money I've spent on gear in a long time. Many many hours of "FUN". The library is just going to continue to grow as people share rad setups too. I genuinely can't wait to see what far more experience guys start putting out there. I envision these presets living along side "tabs", kind of like plugging into rocksmith (several times I've been like ***, how do I get this tone out of this stupid game into the real world and how did they do it in the first place)

I will also say this, it is NOT an "exact" replica of existing gear from what I've seen online, but at the same time it's close enough, especially if talking about in a live mix. I wish I was better at putting together review videos.
