Precision Bass Ramp - 3D Printing Models?

Hi All,

Wanted to check if anyone has found any resources for getting a 3D print model of a P bass ramp? I'd like one that sits between the pickup and the bridge, and also one that sits between the pickup and the neck. My bass a is '57 reissue that has a 7.25" radius and I've installed flats on the bass.

I tried looking for designs (.stl files) on the internet but the ones I found aren't exactly working for me.

Thanks,
Vibhas

I built my own from Wenge. I just wanted one near the neck. Think you’ll find it’s really not necessary to follow the contour of the neck radius. Beside if you mount it like I did can simply try it and if it’s not right make another one.

I took cardboard and sketched a design.
Then I trimmed it until it layer in the gap perfectly.
Then I placed masking tape on the Wenge and traced it.
I just it out with a jigsaw, sanded a radius on the edges to make it smooth abd to make sure it fit.
Them I sprayed several coat of satin poly on it.
Last I placed 3M double-stick foam tape on the back and mounted it.
It’s out 1/8” thick and works great.

I am not 100% what the point is of one of these? Especially on the blue bass above. I play P bass and once in a while, a J bass. I plant my R. thumb on top of the bass. I don't understand how players plant their thumb on the top string. I get it on a 5 string but when you have to hit the low B, I find my hand is floating unless it's on top of a p/up (I have a 5 string Jazz). Is this supposed to emulate an extension so your R. thumb can float across in different positions (like on the above bass, the player can play between the neck and first p/u)? Sometimes, I plant my R. thumb on top of the fretboard (at 21st fret) to play more of a plucking acoustic jazz bass sound. On at least one P-bass, I have a classic tug bar mounted between the neck and the P bass P/U, but on top, so I can play the neck, in between the neck and P/up, on the P/U and I even have a bridge cover so I can put the thumb there - this gives me 4 positions.

If you can find a 3D file of one, can't you get it printed out, then just fine tune it via sanding and fitting (ie: trial & error) to customize it for your needs?
As noted, there are tons of P basses and I can't imagine you will find the exact one you need that would print and work perfectly........
