I just picked up this awesome bass in a trade, and then literally right after I got it, something came along that I’ve been waiting for for a while, so alas, this is up for sale. It’s a 1998. It’s in excellent shape. I was only able to find a few little indentations on the headstock by the truss rod access, and there’s is also I small crack in the battery/electronics cover on the back. Other than that, it’s shockingly clean for being over 20 years old! One more thing. I think the truss rod bullet might need to be replaced. I don’t have a lot of experience with the bullet style, but if you try to loosen, or add relief to the neck, the bullet comes off. It tightens fine. Honestly, the action is awesome the way it is and it plays fantastic. I’ve also tried to reflect this minor thing in the price. But full disclosure is important! $675 shipped and insured.
These are nice basses. Does anybody have knowledge of the truss rod set up on these older versions? Those built after 2015 (according to G&L website) have dual action rods with welded nut. I'm interested in this bass, but curious as to the actual implications of the bullet coming off when increasing the relief.
If you do a google search you can find a lot of replacement bullets and threads about replacement due to striped hex hole. Just like a Gibson acorn nut the bullet is removable as it is a single action truss rod.
