Private message system concerns on TB

I have an extremely hard time sorting my p.m.s, especially around trading. I thought is is just the interface that isn't any good with its odd view and no functionality to "mark unread".

But I think the majority of the damage is actually done by the email notification for private messages not containing the message body.

That is really bad in trading since very few people say which item they are messaging about. And it really doesn't help that the new forum software still repeats that age old vbulletin mistake that you cannot send a private message as a reply to a forum post thread. I mean as early as usenet 1991 I did that with no problems. If you could just hit "reply by pm" in a posting the subject would automatically be filled in.

Of course you still want the body of the message in the email notification. It boggles my mind that this isn't done. Even vBulletin had that option default to on, and very few people were unwise enough to turn it off.

Hi,
you absolutely can mark conversations unread, use the drop down available once you select one or more conversations.

There's also the link at the top when you have a conversation open:

That's marking conversations unread, not messages.

It is the minor point anyway, the major point being the direct lack of message body in the email, and the indirect lack of a useful subject (via no way to reply in pm to a post).

The combination of both is deadly. You can use your email box to keep track of unprocessed messages (since the email is useless) and you can't use the pm display either since you can't mark messages unread.
