Double Bass Problems with K&K Pickups / Indy Area Pickups??

Hey all.. This is a two part post. First, I have a K&K Bass Master Pro. At my last gig, it started developing a scratching type sound. Almost as if a cable is loose or getting ready to die. I sent it it and K&K and they said it was a damaged pickup. They replaced just that one pickup (at a cost of about half of what I paid for the system) and sent it back. I used it at rehearsal yesterday and it is doing the exact same thing, except worse. Anyone have any clue what this might be? I really think it is the preamp.

This leads me to my next question. I have a couple gigs this weekend. I could always play electric but don't want to. Anyone know any place in the Indianapolis area I could get a decent pickup? Don't want to drive to Cincy if possible.

Thanks!

Guitarworks in Greenwood would probably be able to help you out with that. I know they don't do much with classical strings, but they'd be my first bet with any local music endeavor. Hope you get your bass working Bobby!

Thanks for the info!

On a side note, I found that About Music is Broadripple has a selection of a few different pickups. I am probably going there tomorrow.

Hit all the jacks with contact cleaner, including your amp if you've not ruled it out by testing the system with another amp. 1 Meg+ circuits seem to be more sensitive to minor dirt issues than others.

Thanks for advice. I will do that tomorrow. Can I also use that for scratchy pots? I noticed they make quite a bit of noise.

On a good note, I put in a new 9v AC Delco battery and within 10 minutes, it started making noises. As a last ditch effort, I went and picked up some Energizer Max batteries. I left it plugged in for about 3 hours with the amp on and noticed no noise. I wonder if I got a bad batch of batteries.

I guess we will see at the gig tomorrow!
