Wouldn't that be Greg Lake, who you've been talking about? I love him.

Perhaps you meant John Wetton though. He's also terrific.

A few that haven't been mentioned, Patrick Djivas and Ares Tavolazzi from Italy. Both played in Area and Patrick played in PFM.

I love the fiery passionate prog that came out of Italy in the 1970's.

There are many others that I love but it all started as a kid when I bought Roundabout on a single and flipped it over and heard Long Distance/The Fish on the B side.

Tony Levin. Why? He grooves and anchors any band he's in. Peter Gabriel and King Crimson are probably the two most progressive groups out there in the strict sense of the word, and he's been there with both of them holding it down.

Geddy Lee (Rush) - nothing more to say there, except I saw them in June and it was every bit as good as I could have hoped.

John Myung (Dream Theater) - Maybe not particularly creative in every song, but there are some real gems out there.

Justin Chancellor (Tool) one of my inspirations to greatness... Introduced me to fretless bass.

Sean Malone (Gordian Knot/Cynic) Phenomenal musician, I can never decide between GK or Cynic, but I'm never disappointed either way.

Chris Squire (Yes) C'mon, the guy drops to A... and uses it beautifully. Much more particular to older Yes, though.

Fusion VS Prog Rock

I considered Fusion Bass players, Like Stanley Clarke & Return To Forever & Andy West of The Dregs, but I guess Prog Rock can't have any Jazz aspirations?

Prog Rock tended to be more classically influenced?

Lenny White's Space Pirates & Billy Cobham's Spectrum could fit into prog rock?

I supose myung is more of a prog meal played and it is in the prog metal songs that he shine, managing to anchor the band and execute great riffs as well as blistering speed and tightness... in the song trail of tears his bassline is both creative and melodic and id consider that song rock not metal.

DT used to be prog rock. Now they're going down the more prog metal road. Some of JM's best work was on the early albums when they were more prog rock, imo...

Wow, not many people seem to know about PFM. Great band. The albums Chocolate Kings and Photos of Ghosts are my favorites.
