Pros/Cons of Blend versus Volume/Volume

I'm just wondering if a Blend pot with one Master Volume would allow smoother control over blending the two pickups.

I used to be big on the dual volume control thing. Must be as a result of having played Rickenbackers & Jazz Basses.

But anymore, I just don't see it as practical for bass. When I'm playing in the moment, and I have to adjust my volume, the last thing I want to do is have to fiddle with not one, but two volume knobs. It's just too much distraction.

I have basses that have double volume and some that have a blend, and it just doesn't matter to me. I'm all whatever about stuff like that. Different ways of doing the same thing.

I've always preferred volume/blend. Once I have my tone, I can change the volume without significantly changing the tone. With volume/volume, you have to re-adjust both volumes to change the overall volume, and you may or may not get the same tone.

Exactly. Because the two volume controls interact the way they do, it's never as simple as making the same adjustment on each one, and letting it go at that. Adjustments to one will often require adjusting - or readjusting - the other...which may then require readjusting the first one. And so on...

In a recording situation, that probably wouldn't matter. Since so many other things also must be fine-tuned, and you can stop & restart anytime you need to, one additional bit is insignificant. But in a live playing situation, I just don't have the available attention span to deal with that.
