ProSteels - undesirable mids?

All good points/info. My playing style is naturally aggressive, so I've had to try and dial that back a little bit with the short scale. That's one of the main reasons I tried the ProSteels - I was looking for a higher tension/more stiff string to compensate, as the Dunlop Super Brights I normally play just felt sloppy. Besides the mids problem, the ProSteels do sound great and seem to work well with the short scale.

Then I'd suggest using non-tapered E and A. And remember you can always purchase singles with D'Addario.

The replacement A string from D'Addario arrived today and it actually wound up being a non-tapered one. It does sound a lot better, but I thought that when the original set was installed as well. We'll see how it sounds when it dies, but now that I'm hyper aware of it, I can hear those undesirable mids peaking through slightly. I'm guessing that the new string sheen was just concealing them before. Either way, I'll see how the A string ages, but I'll be trying SS DR lo riders next and then D'Addario NYXL's if those don't work out.

I put some Pro Steels on my Mustang PJ (105 E ) and like them. Are there any other SS strings I should try ? Are Rotosounds brighter ? I remember they were rough on the fingers and D'Addario Pro Steels less rough.

I'll always recommend Dunlop super bright nickels to anyone that likes bright strings that feel great.

They have brighter high mids but I don't think they are brighter in the treble frequencies
