ProTec Contego bass case?

Outstanding "casebag". I first saw one when a Rob Allen Mouse I bought came in one. Now I have one for my main bass-it protects very well, is tough, and has good storage and shoulder straps. Good for any time you pack your own base, but not worthy of airline checking or being thrown in a van under a bunch of cabs :-). The best bag short of a hardcase IMO/IME. The other similar product that's a bit cheaper is the body glove bag (100.). I have one of those, too. It protects just as well but has less storage and the front pocket is mesh that's a tad less rugged then the Contego. The Body Glove bags are available at lowend.com and I think mufriend as well.

Great case, I just got it!! I will post pics and post a full review soon. So far, this case seems great, I am putting my Benavente in it and also am thinking of getting one for my Elrick. The case offers great protection is lightweight and has a really comfortable shoulder strap system, it also comes with a neck support kind of like the Sadowsky and Incase bags. Now I just need to use it and see how it holds up in the real world.

Does anyone know if the neck is supported?
From the pics on the website, it looks like the headstock rests on the tuning keys.

Also, my basses all have tilt back headstocks.
I’m afraid of bending or breaking a tuner.
Also, I dislike having to retune just because I’m using a gig bag.
Has anyone had a problem with this issue?

This is the only issue that’s kept me from grabbing one for myself.
They look really cool.

Thanks,
Chad

I have one and love it. It's very rugged and high quality. I agree with what the others say above, however, mine does not have a neck support in it like caesarbass says. Mine is over a year old, maybe the newer ones have this improvement?

You could probably order an extra neck support pad, they are small and velcro to the sides, in fact I'm thinking of ordering a couple of extra pads to support a bit more of the neck.

I purchased one late last year. I use mine in conjunction with an SKB Bass Safe. I slide the Protec into the Bass Safe and have great protection. I have flown with this combination several times with no problems. I especially like the fact that the Protec has rigid formed sides, neck support, and multi-layered protection unlike my last bag which had 1" of cheap foam and this so called indestructable "cordora" fabric which ripped apart with minimal usage. I don't think you will go wrong with the Protec.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info on the Protec Contego bass bags, from what I've seen/read on the net they tick all my requirement boxes for a functional, durable, quality gig bag. I do however, still have one question that I'm hoping someone can help me with; how are the tail ends of the Contego cases? I.e. is there a decent amount of protection on the bottom of the case where the Bridge end strap button on the bass is located? I've had a couple of gig bags that wore through in that area. If this bag has good protection there, I'm putting in an order for a couple.

Thanks in advance,

/chuck

I have a Hanewinckel Draken 5-string, and I'm seriously considering this case over the gigbag that came with the bass. The body width is approximately 13-3/4", which should fit fine. The body length is about 22" which also shouldn't be a problem based on caesar's pic. My bass also has a tiltback headstock, which I guess shouldn't be a problem with the neck support.

On a side note, The Perfect Bass has a promo code you can use on these cases right now. I might go ahead and order.
