Protecting my Ebony fretboard

If you play daily and pass it through the family,eventually your grandchildren may go through the board.
Ebony is one of the strongest wood there is. You won't damage it. At all.

Don't worry about it. Play the string you like, enjoy the funky grooves
and don't worry about grooves on the fretboard.

I primarily play an ebony board fretless with flatwounds,
because that's the sound I want, but I wouldn't worry even with
roundwounds on it. This particular bass has seen a lot of almost
daily play and gigging over the past 7 years and the ebony
fretboard is in great shape. If it ever needs work due to wear,
I'll smile and be glad that I got to play it that much.

I use pressurewounds on my fretless, most of the bite, but a lot less fretboard wear.

Rule number one; do not bend notes like you would on a fretted bass. Number two would probably be either no slapping or play with as light a touch as you can.
