It is either photo finish or super then because they all have that finish and they are all inexpensive too.

It's a nice bass, but believe me, at that price point (even when new) it's a veneer. I figure Yamaha owns a quarter of all the guitar wood(s) in the world, so this is no problem for them. But it is a stunning looker for that price, no two ways about it.

I have one of those. Mine's the other color (blue). The top is a photo finish. However, it is a nice instrument. Mine wears TI flats.

I had one years ago and a set of EMG's pups and electronics dropped in perfectly, which made it my go-to bass when we had to sponsor Jam Nite, and other bassists' with their dirty, sweaty paws, came up and played my bass.

Those necks originally were set with 125 strings (I have original strings). So, 125 should be fine.

Not sure what you mean "photo finish". I do know the top is about 1/2" thick, which doesn't qualify as veneer.
They're amazing basses for the buck regardless of the top. I love mine.

"Photo Finish" means the top is not actually the flame maple, curly maple, etc. that you see. Rather a lithograph (photo, if you will) of a grain pattern is printed on very thin stock and laminated (decoupaged?) onto the body, then sealed and finished. Fender did this years ago.

It's spurious, mate.......not genuine.

I had the blue version, once I installed Seymou Duncan pickups it looked and sounded great. But, neck started developing slight twist so I let it go. I remember it was a bit on a heavy side.
