The PJ Mustang only sounds good if you take drugs.
Do you work at this Guitar Center or something?
OP, nothing says "psych rock" in 2018 better than a weird old Teisco:View attachment 3058736
Jaguar?Need to upgrade guitars. Looking at fenders but open to other's. What's a solid psych rock bass?(highly vague question bare with me) Im a fan of PJ pickups versatility. Looking at a new mustang not sure about short scale tho. Can't decide if I dig a P bass and steering away from a Jazz bass. Just looking for some opinions
^^^YES!^^^ The new Fender Player Jaguar.Jaguar?
Thanks for being real about the "psych rock" thing haha. Everyone I play around calls it that. And hell yeah thanks for the advice on flatwoundsOnce again I find myself baffled at how out of touch TB is.
I use a Rick in my psych rock band(s), seems it's not an uncommon choice. I mostly see Ps or Js at our gigs, with the occasional goofy vintage looking hollow/semi hollow.
Remember that in this genre looking cool is arguably more important than sounding cool, so if you want to buy a bass solely for this application I would suggest just going to reverb and getting the cheapest, weirdest looking bass made before 1980.
I would love to see more EB0s and EB3s cause I think they're awesome (and I love Jack Bruce) but they don't seem to be a very common choice for some reason.
Whatever you get, put flatwounds on it.
"I think psychedelic-era rock, though, and I think big fat mudbuckers like a Gibson EB3/SG bass, or maybe Guild Starfire..."
Nothin' says "PSYCH-A-DELIC!" like a Starfire...

I'm heavily considering it. I've played one a couple times. But the short scale still throws me off even tho it plays and feels amazingI think you should try the new Mustang with the P J pups. Short scale basses, especially with flats are awesome and the weight and easy playability become addictive. But I'm old and such things matter to my arthritic hands and shoulders...
