Pudding - free envelope follower effects rack for Live 9

After a not particularly fruitful search for a highly liquidy, clear, and vowel-like software envelope filter that would work especially well with bass while not being overly thick sounding (desirable for many, but not the right sound for my mixes), I decided to see what I could make using only effects built into Live 9. Turns out you can build one damn squishy envelope filter, but it takes a bunch of filters to get the sound right.

So without further ado, I present to you...Pudding, a free envelope follower effects rack - just unzip, load Live, drag it into the effects area of track, then...cook and chill. Awwww yeah. (Bonus humor points to those who get that reference.)

Pudding was built with bass in mind (of course) but it works well with any dynamic audio source.

Features:
  • Independent cutoff knobs for low, mid, and high
  • Resonance
  • Distortion
  • Envelope modulation amount
  • Attack + Release time combo knob
  • LFO modulation (knob adjusts speed as well as depth)

Sound Toys FilterFreak 2 is among the better envelope follower plugins out there and, as a single plugin with two filters, it is much more CPU efficient than Pudding - which is just a rack of multiple plugins. FilterFreak also sounds far more analog, works in pretty much any host, and is a commercial plugin.

I was looking for a somewhat different sound, though. I wanted something that was more vowel-like, and that wouldn't be hard to fit into a dense mix. Most of my tracks tend to be pretty dense, making especially fat sounds harder to use because of the room they take up. So rather than a thick and chewy caramel type of envelope filter, I needed something that had lower viscosity - something that sounded more clear and liquidy...which is the type of sound that Pudding provides.

I could probably produce a better results by taking the same build approach but use plugins like FilterFreak or CamelPhat instead of Live's filters - but I wanted to see what could be done using just what is built into Live, so then I could give it away for any Live owner to use.

Yea man, there are many cool things (effect wise etc) in Ableton Live, including for toying around with bass guitar.
Not necessary the best, depend on taste and need, but fun anyway.

Thanks for letting me know, guys. Not only was the link broken but I found that the Mac zip utility was causing a weird problem with the file inside of the zip too. I've posted an updated version and used an RAR utility instead. This time it seems to be downloading and extracting properly.
