Pulled the trigger on a Squire VM 70's Jazz

Ok, quick background on me: As of this morning, I owned 4 basses, none of which cost me more than $400. I work for an A/V company here in Des Moines, and we have been absolutely swamped lately with stuff relating to the Caucuses. My company has been working specifically with Mitt Romney's campaign, which you might know if you follow politics, has thrown an OBSCENE amount of money into Iowa, and has hired my office to do a ton of work for his campaign stops in the central half or so of the state.

Long story short, I've been working ridiculous amounts of overtime lately, so, as a reward, I decided to get a nicer bass.

I was planning on getting something in the $500-$700 range, probably either a MIM Deluxe Fender Jazz or an Ibanez ATK300. I played a ton of different Fenders, from Mexico, Japan, even America, and none of them are doing much for me. The ATK300 was pretty nice, though. I decided to pick up a Squire Vintage Modified 70's Jazz. Oh man, this things feels and sounds GREAT. Really, it blows the frets off all the other Fenders I tried, including the Geddy Lee sig, the Areodyne Jazz, Deluxe Jazz, and even an American Deluxe P-bass. The fretwork is perfect, the sound is exactly what I was wanting, and the look is classic. Plus, I've been GASsing for a Jazz for years, but I've just never gotten around to actually getting one.

Anyway, without further ado, here are the pictures, so you can all rest assured that the bass really DOES exist.

My only gripe is that the control cavity is just a hair too small to fit my Aguilar OBP-3 preamp into. Otherwise, it's a fantastic bass that cost me less than $375 with case, strap locks and tax.

Cool Bass.

I picked one up around thanksgiving and I love it. I felt the same way about it playing much nicer than several of the fenders in the store. The fact that it cost half as much as some of those was equally nice. It's just an awesome value.

I've played one of those 4 or 5 times at Guitar Center. It is definitley an amazing deal. I think it sounds and feels better than the Marcus Miller Signature that was next to it. It's a great palete because you can put a new preamp in there, throw on a Badass Bridge and there's your excellent slap bass guitar. I recommend!

Not to hijack your thread, but I got one for Christmas and couldn't be happier! Check it.......

Apparently, Santa picked this one up at GC (ugh), I got it strait from the box...they did NO set up on it. It played aweful. I took it to a local music place (Martin Music) and they set it up in about 10 minutes.
What a fantastic bass! And oh man have I got some modding plans for it!

I got one about 2 or 3 months ago when a friend asked me to start playing bass in his band. I love my bass and take it everywhere with me. I agree that it plays better than some of the the 'better' basses in the store. I just a few days ago played a '73 Jazz with a maple neck on it, and although I loved the sound, I thought my Squier played better on the neck.

I recently started putting together another bass with a maple neck, this time with a sunburst body, because I liked this one so much. Hopefully the two of them will be all I need for a long while.

Yup, I think Squier is really doing some great things with the VM line.

I own one of the VM Fretless Jazz basses, and actually specifically chose it over the Standard Fretless they also had (primarily because I liked the feel of the ebonol fingerboard over the rosewood fingerboard of the Standard).
