I'm having an EP mastered remotely (i.e. not meeting with the engineer face to face) and I found myself searching for words to properly describe what I felt like had been lost in the compression. That low mid, deep sounding, powerful presence that the general consensus seems to call punch.
Being an anal e-mail writer, I'm still not sure if I've captured the meaning of punch with those adjectives, and I don't want to get as specific as calling out, say, 200-300 Hz. How do you describe punch when you're discussing strings, amps, cabs, or talking with live/recording/mastering engineers?
