Punk Rock Playlist (No Arguments)

RIP Nik Turner

I won't argue about whether this song is punk, but I know a lot of the greats of punk came up loving Hawkwind. That's a fact.

Well a friend of mine became "Lemmy", playing bass in the late 90's / early 00's Hawkwind line-up, before ending up as the bassist in U.K. Subs (or maybe it was Peter & The Test Tube Babies, I can't remember now), so I guess there's a tenuous link - never mind how real Lemmy managed to bridge the gap between metal, and punk, with his next band.

I’ll start with the four cornerstones…

…and move forward…

I’ll leave the Brit stuff to anyone else

My favorites all in one post. When I lived in Ann Arbor, MI. I used to have to ask the likes of Ron and Scott Ashton, Mike Davis, Scott Morgan and Niagara to leave my house so I could get some sleep. I met Cheeta Chrome and Johnny Thunders back then too.

e.g. Lemmy Kilmister on bass in the The Doomed, AKA, The Damned in pre-Algy Ward, pre-Machine Gun Etiquette reformation without Brain James.

My infamous meetings with rock stars are --- Chad Smith From Toby Redd --- I used to sit on their stage and they let me because i was 15 (my sister got me a fake id to say I was 18),,,,, I remember that band playing the entire 2nd side of U2 albums and PIL music ---- just real good stuff. than Chad went to California and joined the Peppers ---- but wow what great Punk music these old bands did... I love the Pistols and GBH --- DK is my favorite of all time. yeah U2 got mixed in that comment for some reason

Absolutely. Add to that “Silver Machine”. Urban legend has it that a teenage John Lydon would follow them around, selling LSD in the crowds…

The Pistols later paid homage…

For years, until he had to put it on the back burner because of some health issues, Steve Jones had a radio show in LA five days a week that was hilarious. The vast array of music he would play was amazing and surprising, and he always had interview guests, many who you would not expect.
There’s hours of ‘em on Youtube, but just to start, here’s one that you’ll have to translate from English to English…

Then there was an improbable one with Yes…

I suppose this came closest to anything like Hawkwind…
