Purpose Built Lightweight Basses?

Neck feels perfect. I have a Steinberger XT-25 that feels ridiculously long, and a NS WAV4 that feels much better than the XT but not as good as the EHB.
I haven't tried any with a strap yet.

I have to admit, I am very intrigued by the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. My main bass is a Dingwall SuperJ, so the scale length is almost identical. Chambered basswood on a streamlined body and a roasted headless maple neck? This has all the ingredients to be a lightweight winner!

Argh.....I really need a better camera & lighting. This is my recent creation for my aging carcass. Wildwood chambered swamp ash body (3lb 10oz), Allparts P neck (I re profiled the neck and rolled the edges of the fretboard) ALBRIDGE 3oz aluminum bridge, Gotoh Resolite Vintage tuners and DiMarzio Model P pups. 7lbs 3oz. A smile comes to my face when I pick this one up.

You can lighten a Fender somewhat, but really getting the weight down generally requires a smaller body, lighter hardware, etc.. Really making a truly lightweight bass leaves you with something that either doesn't look like a Fender anymore, or will dive like a herd of lemmings.

Fender actually used slightly downsized bodies for awhile in the American Deluxe series, and some of them were very light. I had a 1999 American Deluxe Precision that was about 7.5 pounds. Ergonomically, it was a wonderful bass, but I didn't like the active electronics and it had a brutal, harsh-sounding dead spot.
