Putting p bass pickups in an EB3

hey yall, I had kind of a crazy idea. The middle position on an eb3 is totally open, so why not just route a new cavity and drop some p bass pickups in where they normally go? Probably won't sound exactly like a p bass, but I think it'll sound cool and definitely more versatile than any regular EB3. Thoughts?

Epiphone, sure, go ahead. Gibson, no way. There are enough options for replacement pickups (Novak et al) without routing.

Oh yeah, totally. I'd never think about even putting a sticker on a gibson, much less cutting it up!

With the mahogany body, which tends to resonate mids, adding a pickup like a P pickup, also known for mids, and you will have so much mids you won't know what to do with yourself. If you must add a pickup to an inexpensive Epi EB bass, add something like a TV Jones 'tron (3 models to choose from) or a Barden Rick-style. The bass will not suddenly sound like either a Gretch or a Rickenbacker, but it will have a good, clear straight ahead tone.

How did it turn out? Mike watt likes his pickups in the middle. He took the mudbucker out.

Hi, did anyone ever try this since? I've had the same idea cross my mind today, googled it and found this thread.

Or is it the eb3 just way too unpractical and it's better to do what everyone else does and slap a mudbucker on a P-bass?

One argument for using a P pickup on an eb rather than other way around is that I could route it for a reverse P and try that too.
