Pyramid Gold Flatwound on a Precision Bass? any sample?

Hi! I'm up with another thread about flats.

I've used the Pyramid Gold only a couple of years ago on a Danelectro Longhorn. I really liked the sound on that particular bass, and I loved those strings for smothness and overall feeling.

before putting them on the Dano, I tried them on a Mustang, but the sound was awful! it was like playing with the amp in another room with a pillow inside the cabinet and a quilt in front...
the same set (taken from the mustang) sounded awsome on the Danelectro...

after this episode, I decided not to try them on my Precision, afraid that they'd sound like on the mustang.

but I'm still curious to try them, especially because I couldn't find any sample, audio or video, of those strings on a solid body-standard scale bass.
only a bunch of videos of Hofners, and they don't help in any way.

does someone have samples of a Precision with Pyramid Gold flats?

I'm interested in this too. I have a new set that I'm probably going to put on my Barker jazz but I've been wondering about them on a P. There aren't many reviews of these strings out there but the ones that I've seen all emphasize that they are high-quality and on the thumpy side of things.

TIs were my choice since three weeks ago, when I strung my P50 with LaBella 760m. That smoothness is awsome, and I remember the Pyramid being as smooth as LaBella.
Right now I feel unconfortable with TIs, due to the tension (I still love their sound!), and I remember Pyramids being tighter , but I'm afraid of the sound on a Precision.
I know how they sound on hofners and danelectro, but not on a 34" scale Pbass.

I have Pyramids on my MIG Hofner Club...they're great strings in that application. Can't imagine them being bad elsewhere. Very high quality strings in my experience. Nice to have those soundfiles, though...those help tell the tale.

I just bought an Hofner Ignition, so I'm going to string it up with Pyramids, and if they are "smooth" enough (comparing to Labellas, that are like glass), guess I'll try them on one of my Precisions!

other samples are welcome :P

The strings are really nice. But you have to get used to the E. You might think you broke it or it's a defect. It's not they all ring funny thuddy and almost like they are dead. After a while the E starts to lose that and the brighter strings start to die a bit and they get a bit more even. Just remember that when you hate them at first.

yes, I know, because I had them on my Danelectro Longhorn years ago.

I had this same issue with LaBella: "dead" E string for the first week, and "roundwoundish" others... after a week the E started to sound a bit more, and the others less, and in a couple of week they became perfectly even.

the things that stops me from buying the Pyramid is that I remember them being poor on the high, and on my Mustang it was really an issue, because it sounded like having the amp in another room, plus covered with pillows...
the Danelectro had so much high frequencies on his own that those strings sounded too bright at first!

but probably on a typical Precision they'll sound nice.

Every bass sounds different....but the highs were pretty bright on mine and sounded great....they reminded me a lot like sadowsky flats with a different E. and purple silks!

I am trying to get used to TIs I just put on a bass build....they sound a little strange and feel quite strange...I cant decide if I like it or not!

I've been using pyramid gold flats on my 68 guild starfire bass for several years but never tried the long scale version of these strings on a fender until recently. I was lucky enough to trade in a couple basses to get a really nice '64 precision last year. It'd had rounds on it for god knows how long and I was eager to to get some proper flats on it. I had an old set of dean markleys but the g string broke and they don't make them anymore. I tried GHS (okay) and Labellas, both light guage (red) and standard (black), but both were really inconsistent from string to string and had that annoying new labella zing. Finally I decided to order a set of pyramids and they completely nail the tone and feel I'm going for. Great fundamental, lots of mids for character and "note" content, very little top end. In my opinion, exactly what you want in a flatwound bass string. And the tension is slightly lower than labellas, but not floppy like TIs. The lower tension was also a plus as the upper frets were starting to buzz with higher tension flats due to the fact that it was used to roundwounds. I'll probably need to have the frets filed down eventually to correct the hump but for now it won't be necessary. The only drawback to the pyramids is that they are relatively quiet, being pure nickel strings and are therefore less magnetic. Overall, though I can't imagine a better flatwound string. Truly badass.

although i've only played pyramids on hofners and starfire (for quite awhile)... i imagine they sound a lot like labellas on a P although less overtones and a drastically different E. the pyramid E will sound dead and have little sustain while the labella E more sustain and harmonic content. i think pyramids would be a great P string particularly if you crank the upper mids you could cut through really well much like this i don't know what flats are on the video i just know between the strings, pickups, and EQ he's cutting in the way i describe

they are different from labellas, a lot different.

i use them on a fender jazz, they sound great. pyramids have a lot of bass content, with a nice touch of high mids as well. they are a very "thick" sounding or "deep" sounding string. paired with the pbass with is already very bass heavy and beefy sounding, this will sound like thunder. great for reggae probably, just not a lot of clarity unless you adjust your pickups to have more treble side.

just my thoughts from a pyramid lover and user.
