QP Jazz pickups, too hot for 'vintage' tone?

I just picked up an import jazz bass that came with Duncan quarter pounders installed. I'm a guitarist and I use the instrument primarily for recording. I traded a 5 string Musicman that I never got along with for the jazz and I have fallen in love with the bass.
I've always done a lot of work with the electronics of my guitars and have always used and preferred vintage wind pickups. I've always found that overwound pickups sacrifice tone, clarity and character for volume and drive. In Duncan terms, I'm a Seth guy not a Custom Custom guy.
In looking at the specs for the QP's, they are substantially hotter than a vintage output jazz and the center frequency is lower.
My question, are the QP jazz pickups too hot for a classic jazz bass tone and character? Or are they a 'more' pickup, more lows and output but still retaining classic jazz bass character?

QP's, as described by Seymour himself, are very hot "modern" pickups, with big lows and somewhat scooped mids, best suited to bottom-heavy styles like metal. If you want "vintage" J tone, QP's aren't it. Seymour's SJB-1 series is built for "vintage" J tone. Give those a look instead.

I've never really found passive pickups that just increase the output while retaining the vintage voicing. Hotter pickups usually have a mellower tone. It just seems to be a fact of life.

Thanks for the replies guys. That is what I assumed but I've not been able to swap out pickups for vintage styled models and hear the difference. I have years of experience in working with electronics on my guitars and I've used nothing but vintage output pickups for ages. There's always a tradeoff for the increased output in 'hot' pickups. And to tell you the truth, I don't need increased output for volume's sake. I've got plenty of loud amps with plenty of volume at my disposal if needed. The QP's came in the bass when I got it and it sounds good, but I'm ready to go with either the Duncan SJB-1's or a vintage output model from Fralin. I love Fralin's single coils, I use them in my main Tele and had some in a Strat at one time. He does single coil pickups right and I'me sure his Jazz models sound great.
